VoIP Tutorial
VoIP or voice over protocol is one of the latest innovations in communications technology. The main difference it has with the old telephony system is that it uses data packets while the old telephony system uses switch boards.
In case you are not familiar with switchboards, imagine your call being routed to an operator before it reaches the person you are calling. That illustrates how a switchboard works. VoIP uses data packets that are sent and received via the internet. Hence, the basic equipment you will need to enable VoIP is a modem because this is the main device that allows you to get an internet access.
VoIP products come as trunk or hosted. If you are still wishing to use your old telephone device while utilizing VoIP at the same time, you will need to purchase a gateway from VoIP vendors. The gateway comes in a data packet that looks like a box. You would have to connect this to your conventional telephone or fax machine to enable VoIP. However, if you have an IP enabled system, there is no need to purchase the gateway.
There are four ways by which you can make the calls using the VoIP. These include internet-internet, phone-internet, internet-phone, phone-phone. If you are making a call towards a phone, it can be a regular, non-VoIP phone. Otherwise, the recipient of your call also needs to have a VoIP-enabled device. If you are making a call through a computer, you need to have a head set and a VoIP software program. If you are making an internet-internet call, the computer you are calling to must also have the same software as you have. Examples of this software are Skype, that of Yahoo, MSN, etc.

VoIP Hardware – Expand Your Options
While VoIP software will most likely retain its popularity with certain segments of people, most cable and phone companies offer hardware-based VoIP services. They bundle this with other packages they have to offer, and provide it all at one cost.
VoIP hardware tends to be more costly than VoIP software, but it is also much easier to configure. The only requirements to get started are a broadband connection and a router. A VoIP hardware connection would entail plugging a phone into a converter box, which, is then connected to your broadband modem. The advantage to a hardware connection is that you can make a call to anyone, even someone without the same service as you. This is a limitation some VoIP software providers have. Likewise, you can receive a call from anyone also. In addition, there are no hardware or software requirements between the sender and receiver. This really opens up the playing field.
Another benefit is that a VoIP hardware connection is not dependent on its location. If you have to travel, all you have to do is simply take your VoIP phone adapter with you and plug it into any available broadband connection wherever you are. If you move to another house, there is no disconnection or change in phone number. You can have smooth and steady service. How much easier can it get?
There are different devices you can use to establish your VoIP hardware connection. One is an analog telephone adaptor (ATA). It links the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) telephone system and the VoIP network by converting your voice to digital before reaching the Internet. On one end it would be linked to an Internet connection router or modem, and the other end would be connected to a phone. Since the ATA is connected directly to the VoIP service provider, it eliminates the need for a computer or any type of software. You also don’t have to purchase any special phone to use it since it will work on your current phone. IP phones are another hardware option. They look like a regular phone, feel like a regular phone, but have an Ethernet connection to the Internet instead of a phone line. VoIP gateways, bridge a telephone network and equipment to VoIP networks. They combine a router and a voice over an IP adapter in a single device. They are often referred to as FXS (Foreign Exchange Station) devices. If you have a laptop to use at home and want to move from room to room with it, you can set up a wireless gateway.
The hardware requirements to establish VoIP are minimal. Often, it is included in the applicable startup costs when you establish a service plan with a provider. VoIP hardware possesses higher voice quality, greater reliability and more flexibility. And you can also count on savings. Taking advantage of this is just a matter of looking around and finding out what is available, what you want it for and how you are going to use it.

Can VOIP Technology-Voice Over Internet Protocol Globalize Your Home Business?
As you work your business on a daily basis, you are probably wondering how yo can expand the reach of your business. Usually this means you need to build up the infrastructure of your business and you will need to increase your marketing efforts. One of services we will recommend you look at is the unlikely voice over internet protocol or VOIP Technology.
To increase your business expansion capabilities one of the first things you probably have completed is to determine how your product or service meets the needs of a particular market. That market being in a defined area means the people and or prospective customers have a particular set of biases and familiar ways of doing business. This usually means that you have to do the first rule of sales which is meeting the customer on familiar terms.
One of the ways to establish a presence in a remote area is creating a local presence in your targeted area. This would mean acquiring physical office space and a local address, etc. However In this day of the internet moving real people and equipment may not make sense. As this type of office expansion move can be expensive or impossible to do for the solo business owner, a business owner needs to look at the latest VOIP technology called voice over internet protocol or VOIP.
.Available as voice over internet protocol or voice over cable generically termed broadband phone service; VOIP services are dramatically different from the traditional services of the past. A detailed explanation of VOIP is more then we can cover here but one of the primary advantages of using VoIP services is that you can order up additional services without needing a person deployed to install service. A second advantage is that you also don’t need regulatory body or local VOIP service provider to approve you entry into this remote area of your goals.
With VOIP you can obtain a local telephone number in almost any where because this type of mobility is allowed to occur no matter where you are because the VoIP adapter that you receive from the service provider is specially coded with your VoIP phone number. Alternately you cn also get a software driven type VOIP service right from your computer. Regardless of the type of service you get, this now means no matter where you go, your number goes with you.
Establishing business offices at multiple locations – VoIP Virtual Numbers allow multiple inbound telephone access numbers in different cities. With this feature, it is possible to establish your business in multiple locations by creating a “Virtual Presence” using virtual numbers.
These virtual numbers can be routed to any number that you specify. If you live in Chicago, you can have access numbers in New York, Houston and San Francisco all routing through to your number in Chicago.
With this feature, business addresses can be established in different cities and even countries. You can set up these virtual numbers based on the locations from where you expect to receive many phone calls.
Besides enhancing the image of your business, customers get the benefit of calling a local number which is less costly for them. You get to expand your business without physically entering a remote market and you do it at a low cost.
As you can see this is how to globalize a business and as you can see with VOIP software there are many possibilities when you take a different look at what seems to be a regular IOVC VOIP technology component. But as demonstrated, voice over internet protocol has many additional benefits including helping you globalize your business.

VoIP Services: Offers Multifarious Opportunities
World over, telephone users are finding new ways of speaking with each other, by using VoIP services. VoIP technology is a way of transmitting voice data using Internet Protocol through the World Wide Web. So, with computer as the transmission media, it allows the user to go for Global conversation at any time. Services offered over VoIP are very inexpensive and are considered as an efficient mode of world wide communication.
Voice over IP refers to transmitting voice communication over IP network, for instance Internet. Unlike PSTN, through VoIP technology user can send images, videos or voice through the same line. The service of VoIP is to terminate the international long distance calls coming over the IP to the destination PSTN.
To define VoIP Service; user’s analog voice is converted into small packets of digital data and sent over Internet connection to VoIP service provider. Voice service provider gets it connected with PSTN at recipient’s end and then the process of receiving is reversed. The digital packets are turned back to analog signals, so that user can understand conversation. Each time you speak, the process is repeated. With VoIP services, any user can make calls at any given time period. While accessing the VoIP services, user accesses long distance and international calls at cheaper rates.
To avail VoIP, users have to install additional piece of Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) to its computer. This ATA is generally supplied by the VoIP service provider when user signs up for the service. Once the user phone is installed with VoIP software and ATA, user can make phone calls as normal; using standard phone. VoIP services offer users to make multifarious processes at same time; for instance while surfing the web, user can talk to his friend over the phone. Moreover, unlike PSTN with VoIP service, a user can listen to voice transmission without any gap in stream of digital packets.

Voip Phone – What Are The Different Types Of Voice Over IP Phones?
A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system requires the use of VoIP phones and there are several different types from which to choose. There are software based Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)/VoIP phones, USB VoIP phones, and hardware SIP phones. This is the new market for phone service. Providers of both telephone and Internet service have begun to offer their customers the opportunity to experience the new VoIP phone systems. They offer competitive packages and most have plans that give you the choice between limited and unlimited calling in the United States and Canada along with low International rates.
Software based VoIP phones require that you download a program to your computer. You can then use the downloaded soft phone program along with your computers microphone and speakers to make and receive calls. You can also use a headset with microphone if you prefer. This is a great choice if you use your computer for the majority of your communications. The software is easy to install and integrates well with other applications such as Microsoft Outlook.
USB VoIP phones plug into a port on your computer. You can then use them with VoIP software. They look and act like your traditional phone the difference being that the voice signal goes through your broadband service and not the Public Service Telephone Network (PSTN).
Hardware based SIP phones looks like your traditional phone. The difference being that they connect directly to your broadband network. These phones have a mini hub, which enables them to share the network connection with your computer.
You can use your current phone with VoIP services and connect it to the network via an adapter. The adapter uses an Ethernet cable that you use to plug the phone into the adapter and the adapter into the computer. You will find that setting up a VoIP phone is neither difficult nor expensive. It is highly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection for the service to work effectively.
IP phones look just like standard phones with a handset, cradle, and buttons and come with the standard connectors that you are accustomed to seeing. They also include an Ethernet connection as well. The purpose for this is to allow the IP phones to connect directly with you computer or router. They include the hardware and software required to handle IP calls. If you prefer to use your computer directly, you can also use VoIP for computer-to-computer calling. Certainly, this is the simplest method but you may experience a lower voice quality than with using an adapter or IP phone.

Saving Money With VoIP Phones
One method of trying to save on your mobile phone or landline bills is to use an alternative method to communicate with people. The internet is a great way of contacting people quickly, provided you have installed the right programs and you use broadband internet, and the other party you are trying to contact have exactly the same setup as you on their computer. VoIP phones (Voce over Internet Protocol) have been around for many years, providing a very cheap alternative to using normal telephones.
Using VoIP phones can be free if you are calling from PC to PC; as long as both parties have added you on their profile account. It is as simple as downloading it onto your PC, setting up an account and adding people onto your profile – much like using MSN messenger. Internet bandwidths have improved massively, making the connection between the calls quicker and the sound quality much clearer – this is why it is now comparable to normal telephoning methods.
In the past when more people had narrow band (dial-up internet connection) internet connectivity there were more problems in sound quality, with the connection timing out and making it near impossible to call people via the internet. Sending messages across using messenger programs were much slower and often not received by the other party. With broadband connection, you are instantly connected to the internet as soon as you turn your PC or laptop on.
VoIP phones help making calls across the globe much cheaper too. Normal telephony services charge a great deal of money to make a call outside of the local area. This becomes even more expensive when using a mobile phone, making it difficult for people to make regular calls to family or friends abroad, without having to worry about breaking the bank! VoIP phones are much more reliable, affordable and normally have good sound quality.
The VoIP software service providers are available to download from the internet, with the biggest programs being Skype, Google Talk and Babble. These are relatively new on many desktop computers; however, they are far from being a new piece of technology and have been in development since 1973 since the very early stages of the internet. Transmitting conversations over the internet have been available for end-users since the early 1980s.
In 1993, a shrink wrapped software by VoiceTec was released with features such as voice mail and caller ID, however, this did not take off as well as only VoiceTec users were able to contact other VoiceTec users. It would not be until 1997 that a softswitch was developed, opening more gateways between telephones, making it possible to call up other landline phones from the PC.
Calling up across the globe using VoIP phones is an extremely cheap way of sending information across, without having to rack up the price of your bill at the end of the month. It is important that the user has a broadband connection; otherwise, their internet telephony will not provide good sound quality.

VoIP Products: Essential for Dial-up Network
Calling over the Internet has become a norm for business and corporate houses especially the ones having a global presence.
